A voyage through little Tibet -2011

With three days of acclimatization through Himalayan countryside, trek through the lush green meadows of Bhaba valley to cross Bhaba pass (4,898mt) and to enter into the cold Himalayan desert of Spiti, a district skirting the international border of Tibet. Retrace you journey with visit to some of the oldest monasteries in the Himalayas and drive over the highest motorable pass in Himachal Pradesh to conclude your Himalayan adventure.

The route: This route offers first hand experience of Himalayan hamlets, cultural exchange, detailed knowledge of diverse Himalayan flora and fauna, and profound desire to trek through the great Himalayan range.

Fit to trek: Trek over Bhaba Pass can be strenuous – but not technical – climb and no mountain climbing experience are necessary. Still steep ascent and high altitude cannot be avoided so a minimum age of 16 years, a prerequisite for this trip. Consult your physician before undertaking this unforgettable adventure.  

Alternative independent itineraries: Experience Trans-Himalaya with gentle trekking on our Safaris or trekking through the source of Satluej, a pre-Himalayan River, to Laddakh. GER highly recommend customized tailor-made itineraries.

Day 01: Arrive at Delhi, a warm welcome by GER representative at the airport. Transfer to Shimla (9 hours of drive or 1 hour of flight to Shimla). Reach Shimla, transfer to your lodge.

Day 02: Explore the colonial town of Shimla with some acclimatizing walks with your guide who provides you a detail history of the town.

Day 03: Drive further up to a small village of Sarahan, through Satluej valley. En-route enjoy a lovely walk up to a mountain top which offers breathtaking views of Himalayas. Overnight stay at Sarahan.

Day 04: Today after breakfast, explore Sarahan with your guide. Later, three hours of drive from Sarahan carry us to Kafnu, from where the trek starts. Overnight stay at Kafnu.

Day 05: Early morning trek up to the first campsite of Muling, following the Bhaba river, through a thick coniferous forest and abundance of birdlife. Reach the campsite for afternoon tea. Overnight in tents.

Day 06: Today, walk up through lush green meadows of Bhaba valley, with stunning views of snow capped mountains to reach Kara, your campsite.

Day 07: A demanding uphill, with crossing some glacial streams and rough mountainous terrain ends the day at base camp, Pustaring. Here we camp at the snout of a hanging glacier.

Day 08: We start early in the morning, to cross Bahba pass. Pin valley, also a national park to the other side of the pass, is a cold desert with craggy mountains loaded with snow. Descending down along the glacial streams we reach Buldar, the campsite for evening.

Day 09: A gradual walk along Pin River takes us down to Mud village, the end of the trek. From here your car drives you to Tabo. Overnight at Tabo in a guest house.

Day 10: A full relaxing day at Tabo, with its 1200 year old complex of monasteries with an interaction session with the head Lama of the monastery.

Day 11: Today we drive to visit Dhankar monastery which used to be the ancient Palace for the Raja of Spiti. Drive further to reach Kaza, district headquarters of Spiti valley. Visit the local market here, now head up to Kibber village at an elevation of 4,201mts.
Drive back to Kaza for overnight stay.

Day 12: Drive early morning from Kaza to Chandertal Lake. Camp by the side of Lake which is the source for Chandra River and immerse yourself into the stunning beauty of the place.

Day 13: Today after breakfast, drive to Manali over Rothang Pass. Reach Manali and check into your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 14: After breakfast, drive to Kullu airport for your flight to Delhi.
